This treasure is so important that a movie about it was produced by Hollywood. William Kidd was an interesting man. He began his professional life as a Scottish sea captain in the 1600s. He then turned into a pirate hunter. He then changed sides and assumed the identity of a pirate. He took a French ship that belonged to England as a prize, and in 1701, he was convicted and executed by hanging in London for the crimes of piracy and murder.
