A few years ago, off the coast of the Bahamas, divers made the incredible discovery of a gigantic stone statue that resembled the Great Sphinx of Egypt—a construction that would have required more than $1 billion to build. The study team that looked into the divers’ discovery was led by James Neilson, who stated that they were “not absolutely certain” what the “discovery meant.”

Neilson’s team was able to ascertain that the 3,000-pound basalt monolith originated in Egypt. Despite being worn down by corals and other organisms, Neilson claimed that the Sphinx’s “nature of the mineral used” suggests that it originated from the Egyptian quarry Wadi Rahanu. It is still unknown how it got underwater.
