While many various riches have been lost at sea over the years, few are nearly as intriguing as the San Miguel catastrophe. The renowned ship ran into problems and sank in 1551 while transporting tons of Inca and Aztec antiquities from Mexico to various regions.

The treasure load was lost to the dark waters of the ocean, but the crew was able to escape and survive the sinking ship. Divers have combed the waters near Santo Domingo, but San Miguel has never been located to this day.
