One ship sinking is terrible enough, but what happens if a whole fleet of ships carrying riches sinks? That day would have seen a lot of swearing. Almost a dozen ships from the Spanish fleet sailed directly into a hurricane in the vicinity of Florida back in 1715.

It’s not surprising that neither the treasure nor the ships were found. Since the forgotten gold has been known to wash up on Florida’s shores, the state’s citizens have profited from this tragedy for many years. While some of the treasure has been found, an estimated $200 million is still hidden deep beneath the surface.
