Among the more intriguing discoveries on this list is this one. This treasure wasn’t made of gold, silver, or priceless diamonds when it was found in the late 2000s by a team of archaeologists. It’s made of bones. Archaeologists discovered a 3,000-year-old graveyard while digging an ancient coral reef in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Australia.

The eighty-three-island nation of Vanuatu is home to the skeletons of its native inhabitants. To fit inside the reef’s crevices, the skeleton’s arms and legs were broken. None of them had heads either; their skulls were on display in the houses of their family rather than being buried.
