“Derianur” means “the sea of light,” and “Kohinur” means “mountain of light” in Persian. These stones are thought to be brothers—two halves of a single enormous diamond that Shiva split among the Sultan’s three sons. Hunger and disease attacked the nation when the young men took over, and they persisted until the rulers erected a massive monument to Shiva, and “Kohinur” and “Derianur” did not turn into the eyes of the stone statue of a deity.
