Baking and cooking isn’t for everyone, and almost all of the disasters you’re about to see on this list started with a plan. Someone found a recipe, went to Walmart or wherever to get all the ingredients, and then did the best they could.
Alas, sometimes doing your best is not enough, and the wannabe-chefs-and-bakers on this list found that out the hard way. Read through to see some of the most hilarious baking and cooking fails, ranging from shocking errors to perplexing mishaps. Take notes on what not to do next time you’re in the kitchen.
1. Spinach Baby
Est. Cost: $20*
What Happened: A creepy-looking baby made out of spinach
Looking up “spinach baby recipes” on Google proved fruitless, so we’re wondering how exactly this person came up with this. It could taste delicious (that dough looks like it has been cooked to perfection), but the appearance is so…jarring.

This spinach baby looks as though it was in the movie Leprechaun, chasing around after Jennifer Aniston. Kudos to this person for eating their veggies, we guess, as unappetizing as they may look here.
2. How And Why
Est. Cost: $5*
What Happened: Spaghetti lit on fire in a dirty kitchen
How and why were the first two questions that came to mind when looking at this monstrosity. Someone attempted to cook spaghetti…by lighting it on fire. As you can see from this photo, spaghetti makes for as good a firestarter as anything you’d find at Home Depot.

How And Why @TheSunOnline/Pinterest
The entire picture is unnerving, as the kitchen is dirty, too. There’s grime, a fire, and general chaos—we wouldn’t want to eat dinner here. How this happened is a mystery, as is why this happened, too.
3. Glasses + Bread = Fail
Est. Cost: $300-$500 for a new pair*
What Happened: Glasses baked into bread somehow
Always keep an eye on your things when baking, lest you want to have to make an emergency trip to WRBY or Lenscrafters. This person was baking a loaf of bread when their specs fell into the dough, seemingly without their notice.

Rather than remove them (maybe they didn’t see the glasses fall in?), our intrepid baker let the specs bake themselves into the loaf. The real question here is if they’re still wearable or not, as glasses are pricey these days.
4. Danny DeVito
Est. Cost: $15*
What Happened: Danny DeVito cake (sort of)
Hey, to this baker’s credit, you can tell who it’s supposed to be. Knowing Danny DeVito, star of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, he’d probably find this cake hilarious. It’s supposed to feature his visage, after all.

Danny DeVito @boredpanda/Pinterest
DeVito is a Hollywood icon with a cult following, so it’s no shock that people are baking cakes in his honor. The glasses, sideburns, and general vibe of this cake are all Danny, so really, this isn’t that much of a fail.
5. From Cute To Creepy
Est. Cost: $5-$10*
What Happened: A creepy pancake
Baking pancakes with blueberries always requires some patience, as these juicy superfruits tend to turn into a bit of a mess. You might think, as displayed by this picture, that you’re making a smiley pancake with blueberries.

But, what you get is a version of the Joker that you didn’t want to see in your pan. Stick with the berries, though—they have tons of antioxidants, vitamins, and more. That’s why a lot of people call them a “superfood.”
6. It’s Watching You
Est. Cost: $15-$25*
What Happened: Lamb cake that looks really weird
This lamb cake (that’s what we’re assuming it’s supposed to be) took a strange turn when it came to the icing and strawberry eyes. Though the shape of the cake isn’t that bad, the rest of it is downright creepy.

It’s Watching You @Pinner62764345/Pinterest
This looks like a monster rising from the snow to watch you with red eyes. While we’re sure the cake is delicious, the strawberry eyes are just too creepy to get past. This cake was probably quite the topic at Easter dinner.
7. Beginner Sushi Chef
Est. Cost: $2*
What Happened: A very basic sushi attempt
This is a beginning sushi chef, according to the caption on this photo. What we have here is a dab of wasabi, paired with white rice topped with a goldfish. Is it sushi? No. Is it still edible? Sure it is.

Beginner Sushi Chef @boredpanda/Pinterest
Sushi is a dish that has been around for a really long time, and it’s hard to find an adult that won’t eat it. There are many different kinds of sushi, and it’s all delicious, no matter whether you’re going to a five-star restaurant or buying a pack from Whole Foods.
8. Rice Monstrosity
Est. Cost: $20-$100 for a rice cooker*
What Happened: A slow rice explosion on the stove
“We should just buy a rice cooker.” That was the caption that went along with this photo, and we can’t say we disagree. This rice looks as though it is a sea monster rising from the deep, and it needs a lid on it, stat.

Rice Monstrosity @boredpanda/Pinterest
You can find a mini-rice-cooker at Target for around $20, and the price gets higher, the more advanced the cooker. If you eat rice a lot, getting one of these cookers is a must, as it’ll make any rice dish taste next-level.
9. An Accidentally-Cooked Glove
Est. Cost: A glove
What Happened: A mom accidentally cooked a glove
“My mom accidentally cooked my sister Farrah’s glove. This is where I get my cooking skills,” @bryce_is_right posted on Instagram, showcasing what looks like an absolutely terrifying scene from a horror movie.

An Accidentally-Cooked Glove @bryce_is_right /Instagram
Don’t worry; there’s no Hannibal Lecter involved, though how you cook a glove is beyond us. As one commenter posted in response to Bryce’s picture, “How do you ‘accidentally’ cook a glove?” We’d all like to know.
10. Nuclear Pizza
Est. Cost: $10-$20*
What Happened: A pizza exploded in the oven
No matter whether you’re eating pizza from Papa Johns or a five-star restaurant, the pizza shouldn’t turn into a nuclear explosion. This person put a frozen pizza on the rack in the oven, only for it to turn out like a scene from Oppenheimer.

Nuclear Pizza @boredpanda/Pinterest
This could’ve been caused by letting the pizza thaw too much before putting it on the rack. If you’re going to place pizza on your oven rack, make sure that it is totally frozen and moisture-free. Otherwise, use a baking sheet.
