“Bel Ami”

The protagonist in Guy de Maupassant’s iconic French novel “Bel Ami” is a “anti-hero.” Georges Duroy, a young journalist, attempts to establish himself in Paris. He’s really gorgeous, but he’s ignorant, cowardly, greedy, and lack of talent. It’s a depressing tale of how gifted and educated women fall prey to their own ignorance. For a lifetime, the book is a vaccination against tales about cunning guys.
