The cake has boiled eggs on top and is shaped like a donut. Since many Catholics abstain from eggs during Lent, the Mona de Pascua represents the triumph of abstinence because all of the leftover eggs were kept for the savory, delectable cake. However, to make the cake more of a sweet delicacy, some Spanish bakers now incorporate chocolate eggs.

Although this Halloween custom isn’t as common as it formerly was, it hasn’t entirely vanished. To “read the future,” people in the UK and Ireland used to peel apples and toss the peel behind them.
