Simple suspension bridges include living root bridges. They are created via the process of “tree-shaping,” which involves directing a tree’s (often Ficus elastica) roots over a river or stream. After that, you only have to wait for the roots to gradually get stronger. A live-root bridge may not be able to support human weight for decades.

The most well-known of these bridges is the 164-foot-long Living Root Bridge, which is situated near Pynursla, India. The Double Decker Bridge in Nongriat Village is another well-known Living Root Bridge. The actual formation date of these bridges is unknown; nevertheless, in 1844, a British colonel wrote in his notebook of his “astonishment” at their expansion.
