5. Bridge Verrazzano-Narrows
The place is in New York, USA.
All in all, $2.7 billion
Year Completed: 1964
The Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world from the time it was finished in 1964 until 1981. As implied by its name, the bridge connected Brooklyn and Staten Island, two of the boroughs that make up the “Big Apple,” by crossing over the Narrows of New York.

The $2.7 billion needed to build the 13,700-foot Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge is a lot of money for a bridge. Fortunately for the city, the approximately 200,000 daily commuters who pay an average of $8 each to use the V-N Bridge have recovered most, if not all, of that price.
