It seems natural that drivers in Japan are prohibited from watching TV while operating a vehicle. But the legislation says nothing about gazing at a TV screen once in a while, and automakers have taken advantage of that legal loophole. In Japan, automakers like Autobacs Seven claim that they are merely “responding to…customers’ needs” when it comes to their cars’ TV screens.

The term “Driving While Watching,” or DWW, refers to watching TV in the front seat. According to Autobacs representative Yasunari Shiino, the installers of these TV screens are not endorsing DWW. Auto part companies sell kits for installing a TV screen in your automobile for as little as $15 to $35.
