2001 was the year of invention.
Average Cost: $4.50–$7.50 for admission
In Japanese, those with obsessive fandom-related hobbies are called otakus. Although they are a little odd, maid cafes are popular among tourists and otaku alike. These cafés fall under the category of cosplay eateries.

Dressed in maid costumes, female waitresses behave as servants, treating patrons more like lords of their own homes than just consumers in coffee shops. These cafes often charge an admission price of $4.50 to $7, which does not include the cost of any food or beverages you may purchase while you’re there. For an additional fee, you may even have your “maid” take photos with you.
