7. Odd “Horned” Kangaroo Fossils Discovered
Location: Australia’s Nullarbor Desert
Year Found: 2002
Estimated Value: Not Given
Among the oddest items ever discovered in a desert is this. You don’t typically think of kangaroos as having horns when you think of these amiable creatures. However, strange fossils with horns have been discovered, which indicates that kangaroos used to have quite a distinct appearance. The fossils showed that in addition to having horns, they also had bulbous noses.

Unexpectedly, given that kangaroos don’t normally burrow, these strange, alien-looking animals also possessed enormous digging claws. The unusual discoveries made by archaeologists and paleontologists in Australia’s arid regions include this find from the Nullarbor arid.
8. Middle Eastern Sprawling Wheel-Shaped Structures
Location: Jordan’s Wadi Wisad
Date of Discovery: 1927
Estimated Value: N/A
The Middle East is home to these vast, wheel-shaped buildings, which only serve to fan the flames of the “aliens are real” movement. A fighter pilot in the Royal Air Force made the initial discovery of them in 1927. The Bedouin residents of the area referred to these unusual constructions as “works of the old men.”

The wheels are unique to Wadi Wisad, a desert in Jordan, and they date back 8,500 years. These enormous stone walls are still a mystery, despite the fact that they are called “wheels” because spokes extend forth from the center. What they were employed for thousands of years ago is a mystery to everyone.
9. Jamestown Dig Finds Centuries-Old Slate
Jamestown Settlement, Richmond, Virginia is the location.
Year Found: 2009
Estimated Value: Not Known
A 400-year-old slate was discovered by researchers in 2009 at the Jamestown settlement near Richmond, Virginia. The slate, which was discovered in an abandoned well, was obviously created by a pre-existing English artist. The 4″ x 8″ slate is covered in intricate drawings of letters, numerals, trees, birds, flowers, and male cartoon characters.

Pencil marks were formed, but even when the lead was removed, the marks the pencil left behind stayed on the surface. Some military-related symbols on the slate suggest that the artist was a government officer of some rank who enjoyed painting.
