You would think that a sports car with a name like Autozam would have a little bit more power. Even though Suzuki’s AZ-1 never actually reached the major leagues, it’s nonetheless noteworthy for a number of reasons.

Produced between 1992 and 1995, the coupe was available in Siberia Blue and Classic Red to appeal to a wide range of buyers. The Toyota-owned AZ-1 had low sales despite being a reasonably priced mid-range car, falling short of its low 800-per-month goal. However, a major factor in this project’s success at the time was Japan’s collapsing economy.
