Another window into the past was the Mazda RX-500 concept automobile from 1970. This two-door coupe with swiveling butterfly doors was a mid-engine vehicle. The original RX-500 was a concept vehicle meant to encourage driving safety. It included features like back lights that changed color to indicate different information rather than just turning on when the vehicle was braking.

The car’s lights changed to green while it was speeding and to amber when it was cruising. The RX-500’s usage of plastic during production also contributed to its low weight of 1,873 pounds. With 247 horsepower, the car could reach a top speed of 150 miles per hour.
