4. The Macau-Hong Kong Zhuhai Bridge

An expensive engineering achievement is the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macau Bridge. The enormous bridge-tunnel system is made up of three cable-stayed bridges, four man-made islands, and an underwater tunnel. The world’s longest fixed link and open-sea sea crossing is this bridge.

Its estimated “design life,” or how long it will survive, is 120 years. It was built in the 2010s for $20 billion. When Mott MacDonald was chosen to construct the bridge in 2009, he received the largest single design and construction contract in Hong Kong.
