Fact 7: There are no inmates. The Dutch government has been systematically eradicating crime for a long time. It is, incidentally, fairly successful. Due to a shortage of prison space, 19 prisons in the Netherlands have closed since 2009. The numbers speak for themselves: of the 100,000 people living in the Netherlands, there are only 163 registered criminals.
