8. Imagine the Disappointment When All This Is Over

This really seems like something out of a comedy show or something. Someone going down to have their portrait made and the artist totally disregarding them to sketch some arbitrary guy in the background with their finger up their nose seemed unthinkable. Again, perhaps the artist chose to go for it as he felt he would never have such a chance once more.
The scenario offers a wonderful subversion of expectations that precisely depicts the erratic character of street art and human perception. Imagine the scene: an artist’s whole focus is totally absorbed by an unintentional nose-picker in the background as a paying customer gently sits still, maybe perfecting their smile. The creative decision here exposes something very deep about human nature and what we find really interesting: occasionally the most honest, unprotected events provide the most striking subjects. The situation gains still another level of comedy from the fact that the final picture fails to quite depict the background figure. Like life itself, art is not always predictable; occasionally the best stories arise from these unanticipated deviations.
