The Court Jeweler described the Albert Brooch as “the most important” piece that Prince Albert ever added to the Royal collection. The Albert Brooch is an oblong sapphire surrounded by twelve round-cut diamonds and set in gold. The maker of the Albert Brooch is a mystery, and the Royal Collection says that it might have been made in Germany, which was Albert’s native country. Queen Elizabeth would inherit the Brooch in the 1950s.

Worn By: Queen Maxima
Owned Since: 2001
Estimated Value: $40,000-$400,000*
Queen Maxima of the Netherlands’ engagement ring is very rare. It is made of an orange diamond between two diamond-encrusted bands. Queen Maxima’s ring is reported to be worth $40,000-$400,000. It is hard to nail down an exact price because of the rarity of orange diamonds.

Queen Maxima has owned the ring since March 30, 2001, the date of her engagement to the Prince of Orange. Orange diamonds, also known as “Pumpkin Diamonds,” are only found in two different places: South Africa or Australia’s Argyle Mine. The orange hue is caused by nitrogen in the carbon lattice structure of the diamond.

The Parure made its way down the line to Queen Mary of Teck, who loved altering every single jewel she got her hands on. The oldest parts of the Parure date back to 1800. Mary of Teck made additions to the set, adding to the number of sapphires in the tiara.

The set, made in 1850, also included earrings, a necklace, and three brooches. Princess Mary inherited the set, and she shortened the height of the Teck Turquoise Tiara. E. Wolff & Co., a frequent Garrard collaborator, altered the Tiara to Mary of Teck’s specifications in 1912.

There is little information out there about the tiara itself, but we do know that it most likely came from diamonds in the Queen’s personal collection. It’s $1-million-dollar value makes it an incredible honor and one that neither Kate Middleton nor Meghan Markle ever had the pleasure of receiving. Sophie doesn’t wear it on trips to Walmart so it’s seldom seen.
