2. Well-known in the community

Jose became a common sight to the Palma population in the streets, however their responses to his presence differed greatly. There was a unique set of neighbours that saw beyond his situation, even if many would pass by without noticing him as part of the metropolitan scene they preferred ignore. These kind people not only respected his humanity but also developed a real relationship with him, calling him “Josete,” fondly. This moniker was a sign of acceptance and human dignity, not only a colloquial term. Showing great sensitivity by keeping their plans secret until they were sure of success, these kind community members quietly started developing a strategy to assist Jose in reconstructing his life. Their prudence sprang from a great awareness of how terrible false hope could be for someone in Jose’s circumstances, therefore highlighting both their emotional intelligence in managing such a delicate issue and their devotion to aiding him.
