11. A 1,000-Year-Old Viking Ship Found Buried on Farm

Using ground-penetrating radar, a group of archaeologists found something strange buried on a Norwegian farm. They discovered that a ship that belonged to the Viking or Merovingian eras was submerged beneath the icy surface of the planet. The depth of the ship’s burial was barely two feet.

The archaeology team was there for a completely other mission, and they essentially discovered this ship by accident. It was a portion of a 1,000-year-old burial mound. They identified the GJellestad Ship, located in Norway, using the same deep-radar approach.
