The Luwan District in Shanghai, China, is the inspiration behind the name of the Lupu Bridge. There is a Huangpu River crossing. After Chongqing’s Chaotianmen Bridge, the Lupu is the world’s second-longest steel arch bridge. The Lupu is 2,461 feet long overall, with 1,804 feet being its largest span.

The Lupu took about five billion dollars to build. On its own, the main steel structure cost about $80 million. When Expo 2010 was held in Shanghai, the Lupu Bridge served as its focal point. The purpose of the Lupu was to manage the increased traffic that Expo 2010 would bring in and to relieve traffic between Puxi, a rapidly developing region in southern China. June 27, 2003, was the public opening day.
