Location: Australia’s Newcastle, New South Wales
1876 is the year.
$121,00* ($22,00 in renovation costs)
The Victoria Theatre was established in 1876 as a cutting-edge, exclusive, nationally notable theater that was a credit to New South Wales. The Newcastle-based architect J. Henderson created Victoria, which was reconstructed after it was destroyed a few times. In 1966, it closed as a theater and became a historical site that is open to visitors.

Bette Davis’s Who’s Buried in My Grave was the last film shown in the shuttered theater, which was a suitable choice, don’t you think? The enormous velvet curtain of the theater was maintained at half mast, giving the impression that live theater will one day return—something that hasn’t happened yet.
