2. The Ski Resort Chacaltaya
Location: Bolivia’s Chacaltaya Mountains
The 1930s
Price for a tour: $22*
Chacaltaya, in Bolivia, is still the highest ski resort in the world. Although tour firms currently charge $22 for a tour of the resort, it is closed to the public due to abandonment. Chacaltaya was Bolivia’s lone ski resort for a spell. The 1930s saw the construction of it.

If there is enough snowfall for a run, you can still ski the 600 feet down the mountain. Chacaltaya is extremely popular with amateur mountaineers because the road ends at 660 feet from the summit—a manageable distance for a novice ascent.
