Nothing @RM/Twitter | Too Much Pepperoni r/FoodPorn/Reddit
The fast food industry – much like the orders themselves – often moves at breakneck speed, with companies releasing new products quicker than customers can say, “I’m lovin’ it.” With that in mind, it’s only natural that some mistakes are made from time to time. But what happens when orders are so badly misunderstood they’re inadvertently inedible?
It happens across the restaurant industry, from billion-dollar chains like McDonald’s to obscure franchises in foreign countries. In some cases, the difference between what’s ordered and what arrives is almost inconceivable. It might be a huge waste of money, but at least it’s hilarious.

1. Chicken Burger with Mayo on Top

Ordered From: McDonald’s
Average Order Price: $4.79*
When it comes to fast food, it’s not unusual for buyers to want to tweak their order a little. Sadly for this customer, their chicken burger didn’t exactly turn out as planned. When they ordered it, they were pretty clear when asking for mayo on the top and the bottom.

McDonald’s, however, didn’t quite understand what that meant. While most workers would take that to mean on the top and the bottom of the actual chicken burger itself, this bright spark stuck a giant blob right on top of the bun. You can’t win them all.

2. Sour Cream on the Side

Ordered From: Taco Bell
Average Order Price: $2*
Grabbing a bite to eat at a fast food restaurant doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice having it just the way you like it – or at least, it shouldn’t. One customer asked for their mayo on the side, but clearly the server was feeling very literal that day.

r/funny/Reddit.com
Yum’s Taco Bell clearly didn’t get the memo when it comes to side condiments and instead slapped the mayo on the shell, instead of squirting it into a handy little container. It just goes to show that even when you’re being clear, sometimes you just can’t have what you want!

3. Ice Cream in Cups Instead of Cones

Ordered From: McDonald’s
Average Order Price: $2*
Well, this employee certainly gets points for originality. These customers asked for two ice creams in cups instead of cones. What they got, however, was a bizarre mixture of the two that made exactly zero sense.

Ice Cream in Cups Instead of Cones @RaphialH / Twitter.com
Clearly the server pumped out the ice creams into cones like normal, before swiftly dumping them inside McDonald’s cups. This must have been some kind of inside joke, because there’s no way this could be a genuine mistake. If it is, we’re going to need to speak to the manager.

4. Botched Affogato

Ordered From: Unknown
Average Order Price: $5*
If you’ve never enjoyed the pleasure of an affogato in your life, then you’re missing out. It’s a scoop of ice cream served in a cup, with a shot of espresso poured over the top. Think of it as a melty pile of caffeinated goodness that most restaurants will happily serve up. But in some restaurants you might need to do a little explaining.

In this case, the waiter got seriously confused and apparently thought there was an avocado involved. What arrived at the table was one for the history books, but we can only marvel at the waste of both good coffee and ice cream.

5. Tomato Salad

Ordered From: Brazil restaurant
Average Order Price: $10*
A tomato salad is a great starter, but it also works well as a side dish. However, order it in a different country and you might get a little shock. In this case, one diner thought they would order it in a restaurant in Brazil, but what they got was lacking actual salad.

Tomato Salad @YSportsEvan / Twitter.com
Instead, it was just a plate of sliced tomatoes. Call us strange, but don’t salads usually come with some leaves, or at least more than one thing? Either way, this eatery definitely didn’t have a patch on Darden’s Olive Garden. We’ll take a hard pass on this one.

6. Cheesy Onion Rings

Ordered From: Nairobi restaurant
Average Order Price: $5*
Cheesy onion rings aren’t always something that you see on a menu (though if it were up to us there wouldn’t be a restaurant in the world without ‘em). Apparently, if you go to Nairobi they haven’t quite grasped the concept of onion rings at all yet.

Cheesy Onion Rings @r/funny / Reddit.com
This unhappy customer received a bunch of sliced red onions on a plate of cheese chunks, with a little garnish of sliced chilli on the side. Is this how it’s done over there, or was there some kind of error in communication? You wouldn’t see this at Yum’s PIzza Hut!

7. Extra Mayo

Ordered From: Subway
Average Order Price: $5.99*
If you’re big into sandwiches then there’s nowhere better to stop for lunch than Subway – or at least, nowhere quite as convenient. With a ton of menu options to choose from and affordable prices, it’s not surprising that the chain continues to thrive. We just have one question – what’s with all the mayo?

Extra Mayo @imgur.com
This customer got way more than they bargained for when one Subway heavy hitter gave them extra mayo. There’s so much on it that you can’t even see the meat underneath. We didn’t think you could have too much of Unilever’s Hellmann’s, but this proves that theory wrong.

8. Fruit Salad

Ordered From: Marrakesh restaurant
Average Order Price: $5*
Fruit salads have been popular since the dawn of time, but perhaps we take their current state for granted. Maybe they aren’t designed to be chopped up little pieces of fruit covered in juices. So hey, perhaps this Marrakesh restaurant had the right idea.

When this customer ordered a fruit salad, they were given an entire plate of whole fruit. At least they got the ingredients right, it’s just the arrangement that’s slightly off. Call us old fashioned, but we like our fruit in bitesize chunks. Better pack some of Walmart’s ready-made blend for your future travels.

9. Chicken and Waffles

Ordered From: Unknown
Average Order Price: $10-$15*
Chicken and waffles is an American staple. When we order it, we expect to see a perfectly cooked waffle with crispy chicken, and preferably, a hearty jug of syrup alongside it. Sure there are deviations from this formula; but at the very least, we expect actual chicken.

In this case, the customer got the waffles but they were presented with some seriously questionable-looking sausages. We’ve got a million questions about this meal, but namely, did they eat it – and did they survive it? We’ll stick to Yum’s KFC. At least then we know we’re getting poultry.

10. Tomato Salad with Feta

Ordered From: Unknown
Average Order Price: $5-$10*
Enter any Mediterranean restaurant and there’s one thing they should be able to serve up that’s better than anything else: a decent tomato salad with feta. When it’s done right, there’s nothing quite like tucking into a plate of cheesy deliciousness – but what if it’s done entirely wrong?

Someone else found out so you didn’t have to. We don’t know where this dish was ordered, but we do know that we’re never going to be visiting. Imagine fighting with that thing as your starter. You’d be better off making your own or buying one to go from Kroger.

11. Four Tacos

Ordered From: University dining hall
Average Order Price: $5*
Picture this: you’re exhausted after a long morning of classes and can’t wait to tuck into lunch. It’s taco day in the cafeteria! What could be more nurturing to young, academic minds? Perhaps the lunch lady thought she would serve up an equation of her own.

Four Tacos @diamondeyes18 / imgur.com
Anyone that can figure out how this bowl of slop constitutes as tacos gets a special prize! Maybe we’re spoiled, but don’t tacos usually come complete with fillings already on the inside? Perhaps Yum’s Taco Bell can fill in the blanks on this one, because we’re all out of ideas.

12. Extra Pickles

Ordered From: Subway
Average Order Price: $5.99*
Pickles are quite divisive. Some people love them, some people hate them. Some people ask for extra pickles on their sub, only to get everything in the tub packed into their sandwich. Having a few extra green slices is one thing, but what happens when you unwrap your sub to find this starting back at you?

Extra Pickles @r/pics / Reddit.com
This 6-inch looks more like a flayed lettuce than an edible lunch. The customer can barely hold it, let alone try to eat it. This could be someone’s dream or it could be a nightmare that needs to be explained, stat. Either way, the buyer would’ve had to hop over to McDonald’s for a replacement meal.

13. Plain Hamburger

Ordered From: Malaysian restaurant
Average Order Price: $3*
Not everyone likes their burgers with all the extras. There are some people out there that just don’t want to be messing around with extra lettuce and mayo. Things can get real messy real fast that way, so in some cases it’s better to just be boring and plain.

Plain Hamburger @HuzairYazid / Twitter.com
But, if you’re in Malaysia, you might need to make sure you know the language when you order your meal. If not, a plain burger could end up as just a patty without the bun – so, not a burger at all. It’s a sad state of affairs.

14. Plain Rice

Ordered From: Unknown
Average Order Price: $1.00
Rice is a staple food among so many cultures and can be served in infinite ways. It is prepared differently depending on what country you are in, but whether it is fried, steamed, or sticky, you can always count on it to be delicious.

Plain Rice @StickboyBangkok / Twitter.com
Although rice can certainly make for a great main course when mixed with protein and veggies, many enjoy plain rice as a side dish as well. But things got complicated here when plain rice got mistaken for plane rice. Somehow, it still looks pretty yummy to us!

15. Cheeseburger with Only Ketchup

Ordered From: McDonald’s
Average Order Price: $1.09*
McDonald’s doesn’t charge the Earth for their meals, which is part of the reason they’re such a popular fast food chain. Their dollar menu offers up a few tasty morsels for a really affordable price, including single cheeseburgers.

Cheeseburger with Only Ketchup @r/funny / Reddit.com
One customer thought they’d switch things up by ordering a cheeseburger with only ketchup, but the server took the request way too literally. What they got was a ketchup sandwich without the cheeseburger at all. It’s amazing how some people even function. This mess isn’t even worth the $1.09 – or the trouble!
