William, a bit of a playboy, constructed an opulent castle for himself that had a 70,000-gallon saltwater pool filled with water taken from the sound. It’s no longer possible to hear the noises of lawn parties by the pool when William hosted the likes of Coco Chanel, Samuel Goldwyn, and Irving Berlin.
