12. Disease Regulation

In their ecosystems, capybaras have a multifarious function in controlling diseases. Their presence supports several groups of parasites and their natural predators, hence preserving more steady host-parasite relationships. Their wallowing activities and grooming habits aid in the eradication of several parasites that would otherwise cause problems for other wildlife populations. Their migratory habits assist to avoid the concentration of diseases and parasites in any one region. Studies of ecosystems with healthy capybara numbers have revealed that these systems usually show more consistent disease dynamics and improved natural disease control.
