In addition to being a recognized historical site, the Guignard Brick Works is the oldest brickworks industrial facility in the United States. Founded in 1801, Guignard was a brick manufacturer for generations, supplying the bricks for many of the buildings throughout the South, not just in South Carolina but also in neighboring states.

Guignard was made out of additional industrial elements, a brick office, and four brick beehive kilns. The adjacent banks of the Congaree River provided clay for the Guignard Brick Works. This historic company eventually closed its doors due to changing circumstances, but as of 1995, the location is still listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
