7. The Ring of Catherine Howard

Place of wear: Catherine Howard
Been in possession since the 1500s
Value Estimate: Not Known
England’s first queen was Catherine Howard. Henry VIII was her husband from 1540 until 1542. Like many of King Henry VIII’s marriages, Howard’s was short-lived, as the King killed her because of accusations of treason and adultery with her cousin Thomas Culpepper. Historians have been enthralled by Howard’s terrible demise for centuries.

A golf ring was found in a field by Paul Ibbotson, a treasure hunter, in 2019. After doing some investigation, he asserted that both Catherine Howard and another of King Henry VIII’s wives had worn it. Although the centuries-old ring is being kept in a York museum, its provenance cannot be established.
