Because using hair mousse after its expiration date typically doesn’t pose a serious risk, the FDA does not require haircare producers to publish traditional expiration dates on their products. At worst, if the mousse has expired and your scalp is sensitive, you can have some irritation.

Hair mousse should be thrown out after a year of opening. As long as the mousse is kept in a cool, dry, and dark location, it should last 36 months if it isn’t opened. If a hair product has an odd texture or fragrance, you can tell it’s beyond its best.
