Ends in: Five to Ten Years
Cost on average: $15–$80*
Our adaptable garden companions, garden hoses, have been around since the early 17th century. Their lifespan is a startling five to ten years. It’s not only about watering plants, though. Older hoses, particularly those exposed to the sun and other environmental factors, can leak chemicals and degrade.

Leaks caused by this wear may lower water efficiency. Furthermore, germs and mold may be covertly residing in a deteriorated hose. Therefore, be careful that your hose isn’t secretly planning an attack on you while you’re tending to your garden. A timely replacement can make all the difference in a garden’s success or failure.
