These two clearly went all out with their gowns. The ostentatiousness of their selected clothing begs issues about taste and time, thereby illuminating a study in social awareness—that is, the lack thereof. Their selection of events is the only thing they might wish to change. As they say, you really must dress for the occasion. Sometimes dressing for the part entails not overdressing or underdressing for the environment. We believe this to be one of those situations whereby the individuals in issue most certainly did more than was necessary. Their outrageous costumes and the surrounding audience create an almost funny juxtaposition that says volumes about social awareness and appropriate clothing. When you consider all those folks in traditional formal attire behind them, they just seem like a sore thumb. Though it’s still really humorous to us, maybe that was their goal. The incident brilliantly shows the thin line separating fashion statement making from total misreading of the space. Though fashion should be about self-expression, there’s much to be said for knowing your surroundings and wearing appropriately – a memo these two obviously missed or purposefully chose to overlook.
