3.Why Would Anyone Add Groping Hands to a Dress?

Now this is one of those dresses that seems more like an art project than a real garment someone would wear. The idea itself begs several issues on comfort, utility, and the basic goal of apparel. We do believe that a lot of clothes keeps everything off our bare skin, including dirt, wild animals, and the outer world at large. Having a garment full of groping hands could so just be a bit defeatist. It simply appears to go against the function of clothes. If there is an artistic statement, it disappears in the very pain of the visual display. Usually meant to be provocative or thought-provoking, the hands produce an uncomfortable impact that is difficult to reconcile with wearing fashion. Conversely, maybe this is a moving work of art meant to challenge our conventional wisdom and inspire us to consider the function of clothes. Once more, maybe not. With works like these, the distinction between avant-garde fashion and performance art is more hazy and we start to question whether some ideas belong in the field of conceptual art instead of being turned into wearable objects.
