91. Rocky Shoreline

Possible Camera Used: GoPro Hero10 (5312 x 2988)
Where to Buy: Best Buy
Cost: $449*
The Woolshed is a huge cavern in Southern Australia’s Eyre Peninsula. It is carved into the the Talia Caves, which border Talia Beach. The landmark is part of a peninsula not only famous for its natural sites and scenes, but also for its seafood.

This photo, taken with a GoPro Hero10, features the Talia Caves in all their glory. The caves were formed over millions of years, and they are colored this distinctive shade by the limestone and granite used in their formation. The Hero10 is a perfect action camera, as it’s waterproof and agile, with a fisheye lens to boot.

92. Spotlight

Possible Camera Used: 2014 iPhone or Android Camera
Where to Buy: Apple/Google
Cost: $200-$300* (Suggested Retail Price)
Once again, sometimes pulling out your cell phone and snapping a photo when the mood strikes will give you great results. Instagrammer @stripe4 (real name: Janis Purins) snapped this photo of a performer onstage at a concert. That wouldn’t be anything unusual, except the performer is perfectly illuminated under a spotlight, creating a movie-worthy shot.

Spotlight @stripe4 / Instagram.com
Though the photographer here used a regular cell phone camera, a low-light professional camera that could have gotten an even clearer shot is the Sony A7S III. The Canon EOS R6, Panasonic GH5S, Nikon Z6 II, Nikon D850, and Fujifilm X-T4 are also great options for anyone trying to take photos in dim or dark lighting conditions.

93. Sunset Over The Ocean

Possible Camera Used: Nikon D850
Where to Buy: Walmart
Cost: $3,994.95*
You can’t go wrong with a sunset over the ocean, and, judging from the reddish-orangish-pinkish clouds in this photo, the next day’s weather will likely be beautiful (or so the old saying goes). This photo could have been taken on a cell phone, but it could have also been taken on a camera from a professional brand like Nikon.

The Nikon D850 is one of the more well-known SLR cameras. The line has tons of different models from which to choose, and many of these models are perfect for taking colorful snapshots of natural scenes, like this sunset over the water.

94. Snowy Desert

Possible Camera Used: Sony RX0
Where to Buy: Adorama
Cost: $698*
Blanca Peak is the Rocky Mountains’ fourth-highest summit. It stands a whopping 14,351 feet tall, soaring over the desert in front of it. Blanca Peak is the highest peak of the Sangre de Cristo Range and the Sierra Blanca Massif. Taken in April of 2016 by Imgur user @someguy235, this photo illustrates something you don’t see everyday: snow in the desert.

Snowy Desert @someguy235 / Imgur.com
It does happen from time to time, where the Colorado desert is struck with cold temperatures that can cause the tan sand to be blanketed with white flakes. One of the best cold-weather cameras is the Sony RX0, which BHPhotoVideo described as “blizzard-ready.”

95. End Of The Boardwalk

Possible Camera Used: Canon EOS-1D X Mark III
Where to Buy: Best Buy
Cost: $6,500* (Body-Only)
Don’t you love when a photo is perfectly centered like this? This picture of a dock overlooking cool, green-and-blue waters is set perfectly in the middle. The sky around it isn’t bright blue, and you can see rain showers ahead, but the entire photo just has a very tranquil, serene look to it, almost as if it’s a painting.

Though the photographer and camera used are unlisted for now, a camera that could have taken this natural, cool-toned picture is a Canon EOS-1D X Mark III, which has a 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor. The camera costs $6,500 at Best Buy (body-only).

96. Frozen Dew

Possible Camera Used: Fujifilm GFX 50S
Where to Buy: B&H Photo-Video-Audio
Cost: $4,499*
Dew in the morning is a common sight, especially in the spring and fall. Dew forms when water vapor condenses faster than it evaporates, and, when you walk outside in the morning, you can see a fresh coating of dew or, if it’s cold, frost covering your lawn and trees.

Frozen Dew @aaronburden /Unsplash.com
This photograph captured the frost on an early fall morning, when the fallen orange and red leaves were covered with a crunchy crust of frost, turning the red a crystal-white. A great camera for this type of detailed photography is the Fujifilm GFX 50S, which can capture minute details, even down to the veins in the leaves.

97. Into The Fog

Possible Camera Used: Nikon D5300
Where to Buy: Walmart
Cost: $1,187*
This photo is mesmerizing, showing a pier as it disappears into the fog. Heavy fog in an area can blanket the surroundings so thoroughly that you can’t see a foot in front of your face. Though terrifying if you’re driving through it, walking through fog can be quite mystical, a feeling this picture captured quite well.

Into The Fog @imgur / Pinterest
According to ePhotoZine.com, the Nikon D5300 is “great for fog photography,” meaning it could easily snap a shot like this. The D5300 has an Optical Low Pass Filter, which means you’ll get a super-sharp image. ePhotoZine.com recommends using a “moderate zoom lens” like the 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G to frame the shot.

98. Rocky Mountain High

Possible Camera Used: Sony A7R IV
Where to Buy: Adorama
Cost: $4,096*
The Rocky Mountains are perhaps one of the most-photographed locations in the world. After all, they’re a huge North American landmark, and they’ve been around since the Precambrian Era. The Mountains comprise a 3,000-mile landmass from British Columbia to New Mexico. Though often photographed, each photo is breathtaking and unique in its own way.

Rocky Mountain High @imgur / Pinterest
This picture features the Rocky Mountains in late spring or summer, and you can see a cabin set against the green, black, and blue peaks. Landscapes such as this can be captured with a camera like the Sony A7R IV, which retails for $4,096 at Adorama.

99. Avenue of Roses

Possible Camera Used: Canon EOS R5
Where to Buy: Canon
Cost: $4,999*
The LensCulture Street Photography Awards of 2020 highlighted some of the best in urban photography, from drive-in theaters to butchered pigs. The first-place winner of the competition was “Avenue of Roses” by Kevin Fletcher, who submitted a series taken on a single avenue in Portland, Oregon.

Avenue of Roses @eushorigen / Pinterest
Fletcher said that the street he photographed was “often derided” because it was “ugly,” but he saw it as a “necessary” and “functional” piece of Portland. Fletcher said that the series was a “documentary” about how some people have “prospered” in the city while others, unfortunately, have “suffered.” A good camera for taking these types of candid street photos it the Canon EOS R5, which retails for nearly $5,000 at Canon.

100. An Open Window

Possible Camera Used: Panasonic LUMIX FZ3
Where to Buy: Amazon
Cost: $447.99*
Taken by Ernst P. Sanz and submitted into competition, this “Open Window” photograph was a finalist in the LensCulture awards. Sanz described the picture as having a “certain beauty” that was “apparently irrelevant,” yet “intensifie[d]” when it was “fram[ed] with…a window.”

An Open Window @cameralab / Pinterest
Sanz used “light, shape, and color” to structure his image, something that could have been accomplished with a professional camera like the Panasonic LUMIX FZ3, which is under $500 on Amazon and is great at catching in-motion photos. Though simple, Sanz’s photograph is a look at how just three colors and three shapes can create a captivating image.

101. El Carnicero

Possible Camera Used: Canon Powershot SX540
Where to Buy: Canon
Cost: $4,999*
If you have a sensitive stomach, you might want to skip over this one. Elia Cipelletti was a finalist in the LensCulture competition, thanks to “El Carnicero.” This photograph of a butchered pig is, admittedly, fascinating to look at. The pig is being pulled out of a truck by a seemingly-headless worker in yellow boots.

El Carnicero @theguardian / Pinterest
It’s a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into our favorite pieces of pork. This pig could end up as a sausage on the plate of someone at a diner a world away. A camera that does well capturing candids like this is the Canon Powershot SX540.

102. Subordinate

Possible Camera Used: Sony A7C
Where to Buy: Sony
Cost: $1,798*
Michael McIlvaney is the photographer behind “Subordinate,” which won third place at LensCulture. This photo highlights some of the darker aspects of urban photography, including capturing scenes that aren’t as picturesque as something out of West Side Story.

Subordinate @andypask / Pinterest
McIlvaney captured his image to “demonstrate…the daily collisions” between peoples’ “inner sel[ves]” and the “everyday reality” that comes from “urban city living.” As you can see from the photo, someone is passed out on the sidewalk, curled into a fetal position. There doesn’t seem to be anyone helping them, and the person makes a pitiful figure, alone and suffering on the ground.

103. Wee Muckers – Youth of Belfast

Possible Camera Used: Nikon D500
Where to Buy: Walmart
Cost: $3,009.95*
Belfast, Ireland has been through a lot. The Troubles weren’t the end of the region’s tension, and there are still rumblings of the I.R.A. in the North. Toby Binder took this photo in black and white and titled it “Wee Muckers – Youth of Belfast.” The photo was a second-place LensCulture series winner.

Wee Muckers – Youth of Belfast @fionajewers / Pinterest
A good camera for black and white photography is the Nikon D500, which you can find at pretty much every camera store or at a big-box retailer like Walmart. At Walmart, the camera costs just over $3,000, which, believe it or not, is one of the lowest prices you can find for a new D500.

104. Week End

Possible Camera Used: Nikon D810 Full-Frame DSLR
Where to Buy: Amazon
Cost: $2,696.95*
You can get the feel of this photo just from looking at it. We’ve all been to a drive-in theater, and it is a common weekend activity in the summer. Photographer Gala Font De Mora Marti entered “Week End” into LensCulture, where it was a “Jury Pick.”

Week End @theguardian / Pinterest
The photographer said that the project highlighted five of six drive-in theaters in Spain. Marti said that these spaces were “almost forgotten,” and they sought to make these near-relics “visible again.” People might associate drive-ins with the U.S. and “old film scenes,” but they are an attraction in other countries, like Spain, too.

105. Occurrence

Possible Camera Used: Nikon D5300
Where to Buy: Walmart
Cost: $1,187*
Tomasz Madesjski is a cinematographer, but he admits that his “first love” was photography. He entered this photograph into LensCulture as a way to get back to where he started. Titled “Occurrence,” the photo features a nun at a platform. In front of her is a wall of steam and fog, giving this photograph an ethereal, otherworldly look to it.

Occurrence @eushorigen / Pinterest
Cameras like the Nikon D5300 can give you the clarity you need, even when you’re photographing something as murky as fog or mist. You can buy this camera at Walmart, where it retails for around $1,187 or so.
