This image of Mt. Bromo erupting was captured by photographer Pradeep Raja, who added a black and white filter for an added sense of unease. Raja entered his photo in the 2017 “Your Shot” competition, and it won an award. The effort required to climb to the top and capture Mt. Bromo’s eruption is not the only reason for this.

Situated in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, Mt. Bromo last erupted in 2011. While the crater’s loud noises and dense smoke were “scary,” Raja, who recorded the 2016 eruption, said he was “happy” to have “witnessed [his] first volcanic eruption.” Canon’s EOS R5 Full Frame, a highly regarded nature photography camera, would have been ideal for this kind of scene.
