In 1346, Charles IV, the Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia, ordered its creation. He constructed the crown as a state crown to be used in the coronations of Bohemian kings in the future and dedicated it to St. Wenceslas, the nation’s first patron saint. The last time the St. Wenceslas Crown was used to crown King Ferdinand V. was in 1836.
