The official crown of Malaysia is called the Gandik Diraja. After Malaysia was granted independence from the British Empire in the 1950s, the Diraja was put into service. The diraja has multiple significant motifs, such as an awan larat pattern and a center star with a crescent.

The 1980s saw the reconstruction of the present Diraja, which is composed of a locket and a series of brooches. For years, Malaysian royals, such as the late Tunku Puan Zanariah of Johor, have been sighted wearing the Gandik Diraja in one form or another. The Diraja and its corresponding gems are priceless to the nation.
