10. Denmark’s Christian V. Crown

The Danish Royal Crown belongs to Christian V, the former king for whom this crown was made in 1670–1671. Denmark’s second absolute king, Christian V, left his crown to be inherited by succeeding generations. Christian V’s Crown is still used today when a monarch’s casket is placed on it during castrum doloris.

Paul Kurtz of Copenhagen created this crown out of table-cut stones, enamel, and gold. Two sapphires and two garnets make up the crown jewel; the largest sapphire dates all the way back to Frederick I’s reign, which lasted from 1523 to 1533.
