10. Electrostatic Ecosystems: Bringing Miniature Worlds to Life
Combining art, science, and environmental consciousness, biologist turned artist Dr. Maria Sanchez has produced a series of captivating “Electrostatic Ecosystems”. Each of these complex pieces consists of tiny scenes inside big, glass domes filled with beautiful sculptures depicting plants and animals. Sanchez’s work is unique in that she uses stationary power creatively to bring these small worlds to life. Made from materials containing stationary charges, the sculptures move, interact, and even ‘grow’ in reaction to variations in the electrostatic field within the dome.
