No Such Luck

It was around this time that the nightmares began, creeping into Mandy’s sleep with an unsettling intensity she couldn’t shake. The house, which had initially felt like a dream come true, was starting to feel heavier, as though it carried a weight she couldn’t yet understand. Determined to find answers, she searched every drawer of the antique cabinet, hoping to find some clue—perhaps a key, a note, or anything that could explain the hidden door behind it. But her search turned up nothing. The drawers were empty, their interiors coated in a thin layer of dust, as though they hadn’t been used in years. Frustration began to set in, but she couldn’t let it go. Something about that door gnawed at her curiosity, refusing to be ignored.

Meanwhile, life in the old house was proving to be more challenging than they had anticipated. Although Mandy and James had planned to make small updates to the property—like refinishing the floors and fixing minor wear and tear—they decided to postpone these tasks. The weather had turned bitterly cold, making it difficult to focus on anything but staying warm and settling in. The delay gave them time to adjust to their new surroundings, but it also left Mandy with too much time to think. The unanswered questions about the door and the strange energy of the house lingered in her mind, growing stronger with each passing day. She couldn’t help but feel that the house was trying to tell her something—and that whatever it was, it wouldn’t stay hidden for long.
