It Terrified Them

By the time morning arrived, Mandy stirred awake, only to find the other side of the bed empty. Her heart sank as she realized James had already gotten up. She found him pacing the living room, his hands running through his disheveled hair, his eyes dark with exhaustion and unease. It was clear he hadn’t slept much, if at all. The weight of the situation hung heavily over both of them, and the unanswered questions surrounding the vent seemed to grow more oppressive with each passing hour.
The thought of spending another night in the house without answers filled them both with dread. The strange odor still lingered faintly in the air, a constant reminder of the unresolved mystery. Mandy tried to remain calm, but the tension between them was palpable. James’s obsession with uncovering the truth had shaken her, and the fear of what might happen next gnawed at her mind. They both knew they couldn’t go on like this for much longer—the uncertainty, the fear, and the growing sense of something being terribly wrong were too much to bear. All they could do now was wait for the experts to arrive, hoping that daylight would finally bring clarity to the darkness that had taken hold of their home.
