Comforting Her

Mandy finally found the strength to rise from the couch, her fear giving way to a deep concern for James. She approached him cautiously, her footsteps soft against the floor as she made her way to where he knelt by the vent. His shoulders were tense, his hands trembling slightly as he clutched another tool, ready to make yet another attempt. Gently, she placed her hand on his shoulder, feeling the heat of his frustration radiating through his shirt. “James,” she said softly, her voice steady but kind, “it’s okay. You don’t have to do this alone.”

He paused, his grip on the tool loosening as her words sank in. Mandy knelt beside him, meeting his tired, bloodshot eyes. “This isn’t something we need to solve tonight,” she continued. “Let’s take a step back and let someone else handle it. We can call a professional tomorrow. It’s not worth driving yourself crazy over.” Her tone was soothing, but firm, and for the first time that evening, James seemed to relax. He let out a long exhale, finally setting the tool down on the floor. Mandy gave his shoulder a reassuring squeeze, her presence grounding him. “We’ll figure it out together,” she promised, offering him a small, hopeful smile.
