Another Vent

James knelt down and carefully pulled back the edge of the carpet. His hands trembled slightly, but as he peeled it away, there it was—a vent, hidden beneath the fabric. At first glance, it seemed like an ordinary part of the house, but something about it immediately felt off. Mandy, standing behind him, leaned in closer, her arms crossed tightly as if bracing herself. Both of them were growing increasingly uneasy. The discovery wasn’t just unexpected; it was unsettling.
What made this vent particularly strange was its absence from the new floor plan. James quickly retrieved the old blueprint they had examined earlier, spreading it out on the floor. Sure enough, the vent was clearly marked on the old design but had been completely erased from the newer version. “Why would they remove this?” Mandy asked, her voice tinged with nervousness. James didn’t have an answer, but the implications gnawed at him. Why had someone gone to the trouble of hiding it? And, more importantly, what was its purpose? The couple exchanged a worried glance, realizing that this peculiar discovery might only be the beginning of something far more troubling.
