She Was Screaming

Mandy had been asking repeatedly, her voice filled with frustration, but the only response she could manage was a silent shake of her head. Something was clearly wrong, but she couldn’t bring herself to explain. Then, without warning, the silence broke. A blood-curdling scream tore through the house, echoing off the walls and sending a chill down James’s spine. He froze for a moment, mid-motion, as the sound reached him. He had just stepped out of the shower, water still dripping from his hair, when he realized it was Mandy screaming his name.
Panic set in immediately. Grabbing a towel, James rushed out of the bathroom, his heart pounding in his chest. The scream had been so raw, so full of terror, that it left no room for doubt—something was terribly wrong. “Mandy!” he called out as he sprinted toward the source of the noise. His mind raced with possibilities, each one worse than the last. By the time he reached her, the air in the house felt heavy, almost suffocating, and he could see the fear etched across her face. Whatever had caused her to scream, he knew it wasn’t something they could ignore.
