House Mystery

The hatch surprised them with its unexpectedly small size. At first, it didn’t seem like anything extraordinary—just a simple storage compartment tucked away beneath the floor. Its unassuming appearance made them question why it had been locked so securely in the first place. As they explored further, they discovered a weathered wooden box inside. Opening it carefully, they found a collection of old, handwritten recipes. The yellowed pages were delicate, the ink faded, but the detailed instructions and ingredients hinted at meals from a time long past. Mandy couldn’t help but feel a strange sense of nostalgia, even though she didn’t recognize the recipes.

Their moment of curiosity was interrupted by Scout, the family dog, who had been pacing nervously nearby. He had resumed growling, his low, guttural sound echoing through the room. The hair on his back stood on end as he fixed his gaze on the open hatch. James and Mandy exchanged uneasy glances, unable to make sense of Scout’s behavior. He had been acting strangely ever since they started exploring the house, but this was different—more intense, more alarming. It was as if the dog sensed something they couldn’t see, something hidden in the shadows of the house’s mysterious past.
