Delving Deeper

As James moved cautiously through the basement, his foot suddenly caught on something solid, sending him stumbling backward. He landed hard on the cold, damp floor, the flashlight slipping from his hand and rolling a few feet away. Groaning, he pushed himself up, brushing the dirt from his palms, but the flashlight had come to rest at an angle that illuminated something further ahead. The beam cut through the darkness, casting an eerie glow on the grimy floor. For a moment, James froze, his breath catching in his throat.

What the light revealed was completely unexpected. At first, he couldn’t make sense of it—was it just a trick of the shadows? But as he crawled closer, his heart began to race. The flashlight was shining on what appeared to be a small, discolored object protruding slightly from the dirt floor. It wasn’t just debris or a random basement relic. It looked disturbingly like a bone. James stared at it, his mind racing as unease turned to dread. He hadn’t intended to explore this far, but now he was faced with a discovery that demanded answers—answers he wasn’t sure he wanted to uncover.
