The Search Begins

James knew the first step in solving the mystery was to conduct a thorough inspection of the heating system throughout the entire house. The system ran through every room, and if there was a problem with it, it could easily explain why the odor seemed to permeate multiple areas. Armed with a flashlight and a toolbox, he began his search, starting in the basement where the furnace and main components were located. The air down there was cold and still, but the smell was faint, almost as if it had seeped into the walls. James crouched down to inspect the pipes and vents, his mind racing with possibilities.
