The Jewels of Lima, sometimes referred to as the Treasure of Lima, are a collection of riches that have been buried and are still missing. In current currency, the treasure is estimated to be worth up to $208 million. During a period of political unrest in 1820, the Viceroy of Lima shipped Lima, Peru’s treasure hoard, to Mexico.

However, the crew who was transporting the treasure to Mexico could not help but give in to the allure of the wealth. The guards and priests on board were slain, and their bodies were dumped abroad. They buried the riches on Cocos Island, Costa Rica, after that. When everything settled down, the plan was to go back and take their prizes. That, however, never materialized, and there are rumors that the wealth is still on Cocos Island, unclaimed.
