This is indeed one of the most “terrifying bridges” in the world, as Metro put it. Constructed in 2004, the Millau Viaduct is a multi-span cable-stayed bridge. It traverses the gorge valley and is situated in southern France’s Valley of the Tarn.

The bridge is the tallest in the world, a record it still retains in 2020, which makes it “terrifying.” Its height is 1,104 feet. Although the construction of the Viaduct took three years, it was inaugurated and made public two days later. The 2006 Outstanding Structure Award from the IABSE went to it.
